I was back in Australia for a holiday, but my itinerary quickly filled up: comedy show, media interviews, protests, and assault. I could hardly catch a break. Why can’t I catch a break? Is it because I don’t want one, or that I don’t deserve it?
Whoa, Vicky! What an interesting and exciting chapter! But now I'm worried about you, concerned for your well-being. Since you're writing about this encounter with the police officers at the demonstrations, perhaps my trepidation is illogical - but I feel like I'm gaining a better appreciation of your status as more than just a writer/entertainer, but as a real dissident who has bravely spoken out about China's repressive policies and who has gained the serious attention of their operatives. Consequently, my respect and admiration for your writing also includes an understanding of the courage which you obviously possess. I'll quit babbling for now, but I'm really looking forward to the next installment, and hope that my eyes, and those of the others who are fascinated by your journey, will serve to keep you safe!
The scream you did in your stand-up act was funny. If you're good at screaming, you should record a song with Pussy Riot and get the word out, so to speak. 🌲🙏🌲
My wife’s dad, a lifelong smoker, had bladder cancer, followed by lung cancer. Not only did he die young, the last few years of his life were miserable. Plus, at your age, you can smoke and be fit, but that won’t last.
Because she has too few friends to talk to (please note that I am not saying that she has no friends or few friends!), she is under great psychological pressure! In other words, her previous way of dealing with mental stress was relatively limited.
Some friends smoke just to relax and relieve stress (when a person smokes quietly, he is particularly relaxed, undisturbed, and enjoying himself - and then wants to pay attention/think deeply).
She used to smoke because she thought it was cool (this was when she was still in her first year of college). It makes others look like she has a special personality, is super fashionable and avant-garde.
The US US Shit. Don't ever write about mass Incarceration or racialization or party politics. You're getting incarcerated first, then you're getting tortured and unlike China, they make it hard to escape from it.

Why do you want to smoke ? If you stop smoking, I will make my paid subscription !
A Photo with a cigarette hanging from your lips is not right in public … photo or not, stop smoking !
Smoking is your takeaway after reading this story about two countries suppressed a human being’s basic free speech rights!? Weird.
Why does she want to smoke? Why do you think it’s ok telling a woman what to do, only to offer her money if she does what you want?
You guys are a dime a dozen.

This is great. I love this style writing, the combination of personal experiences with social commentary about China and Australia.
You should visit the US! If they let you in. You can travel vast distances without any internal passport control.
Oh wait your model minority A Chinese, nevermind.

Just leftist gibberish. We have mass incarceration because we have a lot of criminals.
So many Blacks and Mexicans is what you mean. Most prisons in the world, Fallun Gong.
Be careful. The free Australia of yore is not so free anymore.
I had no idea that Austria is a sort of pawn in this relationship! Keep safe and I “ sort of” love your story and writings! Looking forward to more!
